What is Generative AI?

Generative AI explained simply

Imagine an intern who has read millions of books, articles and conversations. They write very quickly, in every style. They have plenty of ideas. But they have never met your customers, and they sometimes make things up when they don’t know.

Generative AI is like that intern. It is artificial intelligence that creates something new from your request: a text, an image, a voice, a video, some code.

For text, it works by predicting the most likely word after the previous ones, again and again. It does not “know” things the way an encyclopedia does. It reproduces patterns it learned during its training. That is why it writes well, and also why it can be wrong with total confidence.

A concrete example

Let’s imagine Aminata sells houseplants online. She is preparing to launch a new plant: a small cactus in a ceramic pot. She has 1 day to prepare everything.

She uses generative AI for 4 types of content.

  • Text

10 post ideas, a product page and a launch email, as drafts.

  • Image

Background scenes to show off the real photo of the cactus.

  • Video

A short script for a vertical video she films herself.

  • Voice

A voice-over to test the tone of the video before she records her own.

The key points to remember

Out of the 10 post ideas, she keeps 3. The others are too ordinary or don’t sound like her brand. She rewrites the product page in her own words and adds her real photos.

The AI also gives her precise watering advice for this cactus. Aminata checks it with her supplier: it was wrong for this variety. She corrects it before publishing.

The result: in 1 day, she has a complete launch. Without AI, it would have taken her several days. But every piece of published content went through her hands.

Why it matters to you

  • You save time on production. Drafts, ad variations, summaries, ideas: what took hours now takes minutes.
  • You get past the blank page. Even if you keep nothing, the AI’s suggestions get your thinking started.
  • You test more ideas. You can compare 5 hooks instead of just one, then keep the best.

What generative AI does well: producing a first draft, rephrasing, summarizing, suggesting variations, analyzing a text or a table you give it.

What it does badly: giving reliable facts without checking, knowing your real customer, having taste, choosing your strategy. It can also produce texts that sound like everyone else’s if you don’t give it context.

That is the whole logic of Coodi: learn a method, not buttons.

How to use it

  1. Choose a precise task. “Write 5 hooks for this product” works better than “help me with my marketing”.
  2. Give context. Your product, your customer, your tone, an example of what you like. This is the role of the prompt.
  3. Ask for several versions. Compare them and keep the best one, or mix them.
  4. Check all the facts. Numbers, names, dates, technical advice, quotes: check each piece of information before publishing.
  5. Add your personal touch. Your words, your photos, your real experiences. This is what sets you apart.

Good to know (checked in November 2026): tools, their features and their free plans change very often. Learn methods that work with any assistant, rather than the menus of one specific tool.

Common mistakes

  • ❌ Publishing AI text without rereading it. → ✅ Reread it, correct it and add your voice.
  • ❌ Believing a number or a source given by AI. → ✅ Check each fact in a reliable source.
  • ❌ Writing vague requests. → ✅ Give a clear context, task and format.
  • ❌ Handing it your strategy. → ✅ Use it to produce and analyze. The important choices remain yours.
  • ❌ Pasting customers’ personal data. → ✅ Always anonymize what you share.

With AI

You are a marketing assistant for [type of business].
My product: [product, price, what makes it different].
My ideal customer: [short description].
My tone: [warm, direct, expert...].

1. Suggest 5 post ideas to present this product.
2. For the best idea, write the full text (80 words maximum).
3. At the end, list all the factual claims I must check.
Do not invent any number or customer review.

AI produces your drafts in a few seconds. Knowing what your customers will like and deciding what you publish is your job.

FAQ

What is the difference between AI and generative AI?

AI is a big field: it can sort emails, recommend videos or detect fraud. Generative AI is one part of this field, specialized in creating new content: text, images, sound, video.

How does generative AI work?

It was trained on huge amounts of examples. For text, it predicts the most likely word after the previous ones, again and again. It does not look things up in a database of facts: it reproduces patterns it learned.

Is generative AI reliable?

Not for facts. It can invent a number, a source or a quote with great confidence: this is called a hallucination. It is very useful for a first draft, as long as you check everything.

Can I use generative AI for free?

Yes. Most major AI assistants offer a free version with usage limits. Offers and limits change often, so check them directly on each tool's website.

Will generative AI replace marketing jobs?

It changes how people work. It speeds up production tasks, like writing a draft or adapting an ad. Strategy, taste, customer knowledge and decisions remain human.
